Aims & Objectives
At Elmwood we aim for EXCELLENCE in retirement. We believe that the Home is indeed for living in. Life in Elmwood is a POSITIVE experience in which residents, where possible, are enabled to do more and not less with their lives; to exercise more not less control and choice; to live in dignity and privacy and finally to have their basic human rights safeguarded.
OUR PHILOSOPHY OF CARE incorporates six basic values that contribute to the provision of good quality care and life experience in a Residential Home.
- PRIVACY by which we mean the right of individual to be left alone or undisturbed and free from intrusion or public attention into their affairs.
- INDEPENDENCE by which we mean to have the opportunity to act and think without reference to another person, including a willingness to incur a degree of calculated risk.
- RIGHTS by which we mean the maintenance of all entitlements associated with citizenship.
- DIGNITY by which we mean the recognition of the intrinsic value of people regardless of circumstances by respecting their uniqueness and their personal needs; being treated with respect and being addressed in the form they prefer.
- CHOICE by which we mean the opportunity to select independently from a range of choices including but not limited to TIME TO GO TO BED, TO GET UP, A CHOICE OF FOOD TO HAVE ON EACH OCCASION AND SO ON.
- FULFILMENT by which we mean the realisation of personal aspiration and abilities in all aspects of daily life.
At Elmwood we realise that CARE IS A FUNDAMENTAL NECESSITY. Our services are provided by highly trained Care Assistants who are encouraged to attend ongoing training courses in the Home or at educational institutes.
The Home is fully staffed day and night. There is an emergency call bell and intercom system. Residents who cannot use the telephone system to call for assistance are supplied with call bell system. Staff are fully trained in emergency Fire procedure.
A resident might consider Elmwood as a home, in which he/she can stay until she likes. However, circumstances might occur where a resident, because of a contagious disease, or requiring nursing care might be requested to be moved to a hospital or a nursing home as the case might be. In all such cases the doctor, relatives and/or social services will be conslulted.
We implement individualised Care Plans for each resident and train care worker such as to ensure that each client's physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs are met.
OUR MANAGEMENT ARE HIGHLY TRAINED, CONSCIOUS OF MAINTAINING AND IMPROVING THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF LIFE FOR EACH RESIDENT. THEY ARE ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO DISCUSS A RESIDENT'S PERSONAL AND PRIVATE REQUIREMENTS. CONFIDENTIALITY IS ALWAYS ASSURED AND EXERCISED.
